Shaver Repairs & Sharpening

Where can I get an electric shaver repaired in Perth?

MR Shaver repairs electric shavers at its store at London Court, 647 Hay Street, in the Perth CBD. It services men’s and ladies’ electric shavers of all ages and makes, including spare-part replacement, battery and circuit replacement, and internal servicing. Quotes are free, so you can find out what is wrong before deciding on the repair.

Can my electric shaver be repaired on the same day?

Often, yes. MR Shaver offers same-day repairs, and many jobs can be done while you wait. Timing depends on the fault and whether the part for your model is in stock, and it is confirmed when your shaver is assessed and quoted.

How much does it cost to repair an electric shaver?

The cost depends on the fault and the parts your model needs, so MR Shaver provides a free quote before any work starts. Common repairs include fitting a new rechargeable battery, replacing a power cord or smart plug, and fitting a new foil and cutter. For a good-quality shaver, a repair is often worth pricing before you buy a new one.

Can the battery in an electric shaver be replaced?

Yes. The rechargeable battery in many electric shavers can be replaced, and battery replacement is one of MR Shaver’s standard repairs. Signs of a worn battery include a shaver that runs flat quickly, won’t hold a charge, or only works while plugged in. Bring the shaver in for a free quote to confirm whether a new battery will fix it.

Does MR Shaver repair hair clippers and beard trimmers?

Yes. MR Shaver repairs and services hair clippers, beard trimmers and body trimmers, including replacement parts, new guide combs, blade sharpening and internal servicing.

Can I get a cut-throat razor or clipper blades sharpened in Perth?

Yes. MR Shaver sharpens and restores cut-throat (straight) razors and sharpens clipper and trimmer blades at its Perth CBD store. A professional hone restores an edge that stropping at home can no longer bring back. Call 08 9325 5755 for current turnaround times and pricing.

Replacement Parts: Foils, Cutters & Heads

How do I find the right replacement head for my electric shaver?

Start with the model or type number printed on your shaver, usually on the back or underside of the handle, and match it to the compatible models listed on the part — not just the series name. For example, Braun Series 5 shavers can take either a 52S or a 53B cassette, depending on the generation. If you are unsure, email a photo of the model number to info@mrshaver.com.au or bring the shaver to the MR Shaver store in Perth and the team will match the part for you.

What is the difference between genuine and compatible shaver parts?

Genuine parts are made by the shaver’s original manufacturer, such as Braun cassettes made in Germany. Compatible parts are made by a third party to fit the same models and are usually cheaper. On the MR Shaver website, third-party parts are labelled “Compatible” in the product name. Manufacturers design and test their shavers with genuine parts, so choose genuine if you want performance closest to new.

How often should I replace the foil and cutter on my electric shaver?

It depends on the brand. Braun recommends replacing the foil and cutter, or cassette, about every 18 months. Panasonic recommends replacing the outer foil about once a year and the inner blades about every two years. Philips recommends replacing rotary shaving heads every one to two years, depending on the range. Replace them sooner if the shaver pulls, needs extra passes, irritates your skin, or the foil is dented or holed.

Should I replace the foil and cutter at the same time?

Usually, yes. Braun recommends changing the foil and cutter together to restore full performance, which is why many newer Braun shavers use a one-piece cassette. Panasonic sells outer foils and inner blades separately because they wear at different rates, and the foil usually wears first. Replacing only the foil makes sense when it is damaged but the cutter is still sharp.

What is the difference between a shaver foil and a cutter?

The foil is the thin, perforated metal screen that sits against your skin, and the cutter (also called the inner blade or cutter block) moves rapidly underneath it to cut the hairs that poke through the holes. A cassette is a single unit that combines the foil and cutter, used on many newer Braun shavers. Rotary shavers, such as Philips models, use round shaving heads with rotating blades instead.

Can I still get parts for an old or discontinued electric shaver?

Often, yes. MR Shaver stocks parts for many older shavers as well as current models, including foils and cutters for older Braun models such as the Micron and 1000/2000 series, and it repairs shavers of all ages. If you can’t find your model online, contact the store with the model number, as the part may be available in store.

Can I use a different charger or power cord with my electric shaver?

Only use the charger, cord or smart plug made for your model. Shaver chargers differ in voltage and connector type, even within the same brand, so a plug that fits is not necessarily the right one, and the wrong charger can stop the shaver charging or damage it. MR Shaver stocks Australian-plug Braun smart plugs and cords for several series; check the listing against your model number.

Does MR Shaver sell Philips Sonicare brush heads?

Yes. MR Shaver sells Philips Sonicare replacement brush heads, such as G3 Premium Gum Care, W Optimal White and C3 Premium Plaque Defence, as well as Sonicare AirFloss nozzles. If you are not sure which head suits your toothbrush, check the product listing or contact the store.

Choosing a Shaver, Trimmer or Clipper

Is a foil or rotary shaver better?

Neither is better for everyone. Foil shavers, such as Braun and Panasonic models, cut in straight lines under a thin metal foil and are often preferred for a close shave on flatter areas and for sensitive skin, especially if you shave daily. Rotary shavers, such as Philips models, use circular heads that flex to follow the jaw and neck, and can suit hair that grows in different directions or longer stubble. You can compare both at the MR Shaver store in Perth.

Is an electric shaver or a wet shave better for sensitive skin?

It depends on your skin and beard. A wet shave with a sharp blade can give the closest result, but technique matters. An electric shaver keeps the blades behind a foil or guard, so there is less risk of nicks and cuts, and wet & dry models let you shave with foam or gel for extra comfort. Either way, fewer passes over the same area usually means less irritation, so a sharp blade or a fresh shaver head makes the biggest difference.

Can I use an electric shaver in the shower or with shaving foam?

Only if it is a wet & dry (waterproof) model. Look for “Wet & Dry” or a shower symbol on the shaver or in its manual. Wet & dry shavers can be used with foam or gel, which many people with sensitive skin find more comfortable. Keep dry-only shavers away from water, and never use a shaver that is plugged into the mains in the shower.

What is the difference between a beard trimmer and a hair clipper?

A hair clipper usually has a wider blade and longer guide combs for cutting the hair on your head. A beard trimmer is smaller and more precise, with shorter guide combs for stubble, beard shaping and detailing. Some grooming kits include attachments for both, and body trimmers are designed separately for use below the neck.

Where can I buy professional barber clippers in Perth?

MR Shaver sells professional hair clippers and trimmers at its Perth CBD store and online. The range is mainly from Wahl’s Professional line, including the Super Taper, Designer, Balding Clip and cordless Magic Clip, and also includes a Vitalic barber clipper and trimmer. The same store repairs clippers and sharpens clipper blades. Stock changes, so check the Clippers & Trimmers range online or call 08 9325 5755.

Does MR Shaver sell pet clippers?

Yes. MR Shaver lists pet clippers in its Clippers & Trimmers range, including the Wahl KM-2 Pet Clipper. Availability changes, so check the Pet Clippers page or call 08 9325 5755 before visiting.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

How do I clean my electric shaver?

First check whether your shaver is washable; most wet & dry models are. For a washable shaver, put a little liquid hand soap and water on the head, run the shaver for a few seconds to make a lather, then rinse under warm running water (not boiling), shake off the water and let the head air-dry. For a dry-only shaver, tap out the hair and use the cleaning brush. Never brush the foil itself — only the cutter — because the foil is easily damaged. Always follow your model’s instructions.

Do I need to oil my shaver or clipper blades?

Yes, for most blades. Braun and Panasonic both recommend putting a drop of light oil on the foil or cutters from time to time, especially after washing the shaver with soap and water. Hair clippers and beard trimmers need oiling more often: add a drop or two across the blade teeth before each use and run the clipper for a few seconds to spread it.

Why is my electric shaver pulling hairs or irritating my skin?

The most common cause is a worn foil and cutter or worn rotary heads, which make you go over the same area more often. Other causes include hair and skin residue clogging the head, a low battery slowing the motor, or pressing too hard. Clean the head thoroughly and fully charge the shaver; if it still pulls, the head probably needs replacing. MR Shaver can check the shaver in store.

Why won’t my electric shaver charge or hold a charge?

Start by ruling out simple causes: try a different power point, check the cord or smart plug for damage, and make sure the charging contacts are clean. If the shaver still runs flat quickly, won’t charge, or only works while plugged in, the rechargeable battery has probably reached the end of its life. MR Shaver replaces shaver batteries, charging circuits and power cords in store and gives free quotes.

What should I do if my hair clipper isn’t cutting properly?

Clean the blades first, removing trapped hair, then add a few drops of clipper oil across the teeth and run the clipper for a few seconds. If it is cordless, charge it fully, as a low battery slows the motor. If it still pulls or drags, the blades are probably dull or misaligned and need sharpening or replacing. MR Shaver sharpens clipper and trimmer blades and repairs clippers at its Perth store.

Wet Shaving: Razors, Blades & Brushes

Are razors with more blades better?

Not necessarily. A single sharp blade can shave as well as a multi-blade cartridge. Extra blades can clog with stubble and lather, which reduces their effect and can mean more passes and more irritation. What matters most is a sharp blade, so change blades regularly whether you use a safety razor or a Mach3 or Fusion handle.

What is the difference between a safety razor and a cartridge razor?

A safety razor holds a single replaceable double-edge blade in a metal head, while a cartridge razor uses a disposable head with several blades, often on a pivot. Safety razor blades are generally inexpensive to replace, but you need to hold the razor at the right angle and take your time while you learn. Cartridge razors are quicker to pick up. MR Shaver stocks both, including Merkur safety razors and Mach3 and Fusion razors.

Is a badger or synthetic shaving brush better?

Both work well. Natural badger hair holds more water, so it builds a rich lather and feels soft on the skin; badger brushes are graded by hair quality, from mixed and pure badger up to silvertip. Modern synthetic brushes dry quickly, need no breaking in and are animal-free. Choose badger for a traditional feel or synthetic for easy care.

How do I look after a cut-throat razor?

Strop the razor on a leather strop before every shave to realign the edge, and keep it clean and completely dry between shaves to prevent rust. Stropping won’t restore a dull blade, so a cut-throat needs professional honing from time to time; MR Shaver sharpens and restores cut-throat razors at its Perth store. With proper care, a good cut-throat razor can last a lifetime.

Should I use shaving cream, soap, gel or oil?

It comes down to your skin and preference. Shaving creams and soaps, applied with a brush, give a cushioned, moisturising lather and suit most skin types. Shaving oil helps the blade glide with less friction, so it is popular for sensitive skin, and many people use it as a pre-shave under cream or soap. Gels and foams are quick and convenient but usually give a thinner lather.

What warranty comes with new shavers and appliances?

That warranty is in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, which a warranty cannot limit. If something goes wrong, contact MR Shaver first with your proof of purchase.
